Anti-Pirate War Decs

Hey Everyone!

So, first blog...in actuality not only here, but ever. Never really got into it, but given that no one I know in person plays EVE, I figured I'd make a few friends through the game and spread the word this way.

This first post is kind of going to be all over the place as I do not want to spend the next ten minutes bragging about that thorax and pod tackle I got last night...as thrilling as it was.

After first starting the game (roughly a month ago, just hit my 1.6 yesterday!) I joined up with the 101st corps sister training corp, the 101st Space Marine Academy (101SMA) in order to learn more about pvp. There I learned some of the finer points about fitting a ship, tackling, and manual orbiting. After our first FW Op in high-sec though, I realized that it was not for me, and nor were five hour gate camps on one gate.

After my departure I began looking for pirate, and small fleet corps. Eventually I landed in Akai, in the School of Applied Koolaid corp. I know...it sounds dumb. However...before my joining them, my pvp record was 0-2 in a Merlin. I joined the corp, trained one day for a Rifter, fitted it completely, and as of last night I have now gone 5-0 in a Rifter in two days, bringing me to 5-2 total with 1 pod kill, an ISK success ratio of 119:1, and a large number of candy tasting tears. Keep in mind I am only attacking WTs in enemy corps, not random attacks in low-sec as my corp isn't hunting mid-war.

Previously with three active war decs, we went on a killing spree, not losing a single ship in corporation war yet with our total as a corp 38-3. As of last night, the first (and decimated) corp filed for a cease fire with us, leaving us with two active wars, one "anti-pirate corp" which is getting dominated, and one foolish corp...of one man.

I've found that the rush in pvp in EVE can't be matched in any other game, nothing else can compare to the feeling I got the other night tackling a Drake while half into structure to give my corp another kill 6km outside of a gate. Hear me out, I have played a lot of games. I was active in MxO, Ultima Online, Star Wars Galaxies, Star Trek Online for a short amount of time, City of Heroes / Villains, Age of Conan, Aion, I am still active in World of Warcraft, and in all of those games I never needed to defend myself in pvp. In EVE alone, I feel scared every time I fight.

While I haven't had many troubles with the game (I don't hang out near Jita thank you), the only issue I have had, has been acquiring ISK. I failed to blitz through missions and hacking and ninja salvaging have not worked out well for me so far (by that I mean not finding Radar, or ships mid-mission). While not an issue now, it will present itself as a problem when I want to pick up a Drake tomorrow, or my Inty in a few weeks.

I'll try to post more, preferably with less paragraphs of two sentences, depending on what goes on in-game. I haven't wandered into low-sec often as the corp is only 9-12 strong. In the upcoming weeks I will be finishing my training for a Crow and do my best to fly circles around everything I see.

I'll also try to post something more related to the title next time...

Until then,

~ Mordoa

  1. Very nice start to your blog--I hope you stick with it. It's very enjoyable to watch young pilots (esp. pirate types) develop through the tales they tell on their blogs. :)
